Do You Want a DIY Balsa Wood Box?

As to making small handcrafting wood box, balsa wood can be regarded as the best wood choice actually since it is soft, lightweight and easy to work with. The balsa wood box can be used to store small items, like necklace, rings, accessories and so forth. There are various kinds of wood boxes which can be found easily both in domestic and international markets. However, you can make a DIY balsa wood balsa very easily if you can read the following instruction carefully.
In order to make the DIY balsa wood box, you may need the following things, like balsa wood sheets, craft knife, T-square, masking tape, ruler, pencil, wood glue, jewelry box hingers, epoxy, and fine grain sandpapers and so forth. Before your work, here we will give you useful tips or warnings to you. For example, you are advised to use the completed frame to make a paper pattern if you can't find the balsa wood in large enogh sheets for the top and bottom pieces. Then, you should cut shorter planks to fill this shape and glue them together edge to edge actually.
First of all, you should prepare the frame pieces. Cut two rectangular pieces by using the T-square and craft-knife. The sizes of the pieces should be 8 inches by 3 and 5 inches by 3 actually. The balsa wood is easy to work with, so you can cut it very easily.
Second, place the longer pieces against the outside edges of the shorter pieces to assemble the sides pieces into a frame. Apply wood glue to the ends of the short pieces to attach the pieces. Then hold the frame together with a few strips of masking tape. Wait for a few minutes to make the glue dry naturally.
Third, place the frame directly onto the balsa wood sheet and trace it to create the bottom and top pieces for the box. To provide the best fit, you should cut just inside the tracing lines for each of the two pieces. Glue the side frame onto the bottom of the box. In order to get a better effect, you are advised to glue all around the edge of the frame actually.
Fourth, use hinges to attach the lid of the box. You are advised to lay the lid over the top of the unfinished box and position its edges flush with the edges of the frame. Open the hinges and lay them in place. Attach the hinges by placing a small epoxy on each of the holes where the screws would fasten. You may need to sand it gently.
